For our trip to India, I’m following the path of Chris Bolton with a four a day picture diary.

What we are doing?

Where it is happening?

Who is involved?

Why?

Four pictures with a bit of commentary.

What we are doing?

Driving out of Agra towards Ranthambore – a long drive time across 300 kilometres. Did a couple of road stops , not a franchise in sight!

Where it is happening?

Ranthambore is a destination if you want to catch a glimpse of a bengal tiger (more of that tomorrow) but I was naively struck by the way Christmas is promoted here. I’ve heard Jingle Bells at airports, seen Indian Santas, and even tried an Indian mince pie. Christmas is a state holiday in India, although Christianity in India is a minority with only 2.3% of the population. Despite most Indians being Hindus, millions of Indians still celebrate Christmas as a secular holiday.

Who is involved?

This lady made the most amazing Roti and assorted breads served direct to your table. No further commentary needed – she’s cool.

Why?

Why would a cow A) block my entrance to an ATM and B) attempt to force their way in once I’d got past them? This is my fourth time in India and I remain fascinated by cow culture.

Cows roam freely due to their sacred status in Hinduism and economic reasons. Farmers abandon unproductive cows who can’t afford upkeep, leading to large stray populations that adapt to urban life.

Love them – and it may lead to to me giving up beef.

May.

Four more tomorrow. (If you want more, and better photos – follow me on instagram

Namaste!
